Success of "Hugh's Fish Fight" Continues

It seems we can't go a month without mentioning Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. However, this is with very good reason!  

Not only has 'Hugh's Fish Fight' won a BAFTA and a Grierson Award, but todays Broadcast Awards 2012 Shortlist reveals that it has has been nominated for Best Documentary Series AND Best Popular Factual Programme!

Malcolm McLaren's last talk discusses 'Karaoke Culture'

How does one find authentic creativity?  In his last talk before passing away, Malcolm McLaren tells remarkable stories from his own life, from failing school to managing the Sex Pistols. He argues that we're living in a karaoke culture, with false promises of instant success, and that messiness and failure are the key to true learning.

A designer, promoter and recording artist, Malcom McLaren masterminded the punk-rock group the Sex Pistols, was an early mover in globalizing hip-hop, and made ambitious works of art.

"Upside Down: The Creation Records Story"

"Upside Down" is a compelling portrait of Alan McGee, and his journey running one of the worlds most successful independent record labels - Creation.

Interviews with artists including Noel Gallagher and Bobby Gillespie reveal the antics that went on - the stuff made of rock 'n roll dreams and nightmares! 

Directed by Danny O'Connor, Blueberry's Jonny Halifax spent much of 2010 editing and providing animation for the film.

Esteban Uyarra and Trinchera Film School

Esteban is a documentary Editor / Director who's films include "War Feels Like War" and “The Trial of Saddam Hussein”. He's also a Senior Tutor with DFG, designing production training courses.

      

Last year Esteban piloted the Trinchera Film School in Mexico. This trained the community on doc film making and empowered children to express themselves - especially those from difficult backgrounds.

Tom Hooper | Passion and Perseverance

Tom Hooper, Director of The Kings Speech, which won 4 Academy Awards this year, hails from LondonAt the tender age of 12, he read a book entitled How to Make Film & Television, and decided he wanted to become a filmmaker. At 14, he came runner-up in a BBC younger filmmakers' competition.

Among his first broadcast directing gigs were soaps Byker Grove and Eastenders, before progressing through costume drama to epic TV series (Elizabeth I, John Adams) to features (Damned United and The Kings Speech).

Yoga For Unity, a documentary film set in Kenya, highlights deep-seated tribal conflicts and shows how yoga is transforming parts of the country divided by tribal conflicts.

Albino United  Channel 4

Over the last few years, more than 50 albinos have been murdered in Tanzania, including children and babies as young as six months old.

Many more have been attacked with machetes and have had their limbs cut off. In this film the establishment of Albino United demonstrate that attitudes in Tanzania to people with albinism must change and the killings must stop.

This extraordinary film was produced by multi award-winning filmmaker Nick Broomfield and directed by Marc Hoeferlin, Barney Broomfield and Juan Reina.

Ash Jenkins was the editor and the team used Roundtable Films for the facilities dry hire.
