Will preditors have an increasingly active role in future productions?
Blueberry Creative Consultants represents post-production talent: editors and designers. Over the years we've witnessed the evolution of many careers – editors have sometimes moved into directing, designers to positions as creative directors.
There are many editors with an eye for production and direction, and we've come to recognise these talented individuals as preditors.
Successful preditors from editing backgrounds share many traits in common: excellent storytelling skills honed from years in the edit suite, experience of working closely with a plethora of directors and end clients, good communication skills, strong creative vision, and the ability to remain cool under pressure.
Blueberry works with several clients who request preditors on a regular basis, and this is likely to increase. Clients have realised that they have certain needs for certain types of projects – eg. short online films - and preditors can fit the bill perfectly. Some clients also like having one go-to creative working on their project from start to finish.
When Blueberry receives a request for a preditor we talk to the client and discuss the options available. We look at the proposed project and schedule and find out what qualities will be needed from the talent. We put the chosen preditor in touch to discuss the objectives of the project, overall vision, and workflows, and plan for any extra support they may need Blueberry works to ensure that the person chosen for the project is the best fit in terms of skillblend, personality, technical ability, creative vision and experience.
Finding the right person for the job is ultimately what makes successful and lasting creative relationships, whether the skills called for are those of a preditor, editor or designer. The only thing that might be new about ‘preditors' is that there is now a name for the role of preditor – and a growing recognition of the market for their skills.
